Summary:
Le jour de la Saint Jean, les gendarmes de Baud, Pontivy, Plouay, vont à Melrand chez Le Sauz de Kerlé.
– « Où sont allés vos Chouans, Claude Talhouët ou Jean Jan ? »
Fanchon Le Sauz va à la loge où se cachent les Chouans. – « Mon ami Jean Jan, sauvez-vous ! »
Mais les gendarmes l’ont vue s’éclipser, l’ont suivie et tirent sur les Chouans. Jean Jan est tué par les sans-culottes.

Notes historiques [de F. Cadic] : Jean Jan avait l’habitude de se réfugier à Kerlé (Melrand) avec son ami Claude Lorcy de Talhouët. Plusieurs explications sont données sur la façon dont les Chouans furent surpris en ce jour de la Saint Jean 1798 : trahison ou hasard… Jean Jan et Lorcy furent tués. Fanchon Le Sauz, blessée, fut libérée peu après.
